I just came here for the first time a minute ago to post about what I know of the Hooters chips.
Do you mind if I give you my take on Tito?
From the very beginning I believe that this extra revenue was considered by the casinos (in addition to cutting their labor costs).
Just 3 years ago you had to go clear across the casino to the cage to cash one of these out. At least now it's better with all the TITO cash out machines.
I have cocktailed in casinos since 1996 and watched people cash out with $1.00 TITO and say, "Oh, well. I'll just use it next time."
Of course we all know how time flies and many expire in 30 days.
I have a stack of them too, but not because I'm collecting them.
When a batender or server are given one of these as a "tip" it can really be a pain in the neck to cash them out. We aren't allowed to stick it in a TITO redemption machine while we're in uniform so we have two choices:
Go all the way upstairs, change and come all the way back down, then all the way back upstairs toexit the casino ( a LONG journey after being on your feet all day) or
Go ALL the way down to the vault and stand in a line that takes FOREVER to cash out a silly ticket.
Plus I can't tell you how many times I've received a TITO tip from another casino. It hardly makes sense to drive from the Strip to the Golden Nugget (at nearly $3 per gallon of gas) just to cash out a dollar TITO.
So they end up sitting here on my desk and eventually become scrap paper to jot down phone numbers, etc. Lol.
That's just another take in case you're interested.
Migsterama.
