I have been both a GM and Delphi stock holder and I think it is ridiculous that DPH had to do chapter 11 due to wages and benefits that totalled $78 per hour. When I ran my business my total employees cost was about $13 per hour (of course I was in the middle of nowhere, not downtown Detroit). I will agree that a lot of GM's problems are management decision driven but the overall wage cost structure is still crippling. Like Bob said if you can't make a product people want to buy then you go out of business. As far as foreign vehicle purchases I still get a chuckle out of the red blooded Americans who only buy American and then buy a Dodge minivan made in either Canada or Mexico. And by the way - most of those Japanese vehicles are now made here in the states. Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Isuzu, Toyota all have auto plants here in the states.
