For those that did not read the entire article, it was also pointed out that having this number was not all that usefull (superfluous was there term). If your cell phone is lost or stolen, or otherwise outside of your control and you are concerned about getting bills for calls you don't make, then simply tell your service provider that the phone is gone.

They will render it unusable based your knowledge of the phone number and being a customer.
