It would appear that the hotels we have used in the past have for the most part, been those in trouble and subject to an imminent restructuring or bankruptcy. Look at the Aladdin (always a loser), Tropicana (finally to be sold and rebuilt), and now Riviera. Orleans is the only hotel we have used that is a money-maker for the owners.
To maintain our longer-term relations with the convention hotel, we maybe ought to look at paying a little more for meeting room space to meet at a place that's going to be there for a while. I'd be happy to pay a higher convention admission fee (+$10-20, for instance) in return for freedom to stay at a nearby (or even the same) hotel at player rates without penalizing the club.
