Sorry to say Jim, but these guys gave you an honest ethical opinion on the chips. Sounds like you've got a lot of faith in your friend and his story but no one here can put these chips in that joint at that time. We're only using the same standards we apply to one another when it comes to chip attribution.
I never was in the that casino. As it happens, I stiffed the LV property on my reservation the week before the fire. I did play roulette at the MGM in Reno about a year after the LV fire and they were not using generic chips or plain mold chips. Seems unlikely to me that MGM would have been using any generic chips anywhere at that time considering the image they wanted to project. Most Nevada casinos at the time would have been using their own branded cheques.
The chip box is a nice piece but I remained unconvinced that the chips were used at MGM when the fire occured.
