I was wondering whether to post this here, decided not to, but after seeing your post, I'll post it here after all.
I had complained to the Post Office online, and to my surprise, they agreed with me!
Here was my complaint;
I have a complaint. March 20, 2006, I went to the main post office in New York City (the one on 8th Avenue near about 31st street) zip 10199. I had a letter, postage on it, addressed to the New York State Sales Tax, that was due March 20th and had to be postmarked March 20th. I waited in line, went to a clerk and asked him to postmark (hand cancel) it. He amazed me by saying that he would only do that if I bought a Certificate of Mailing, for 95 cents. I complained to the floor man there for the post office, a very abusive, rude person named ...... . That is a story in itself. He said his name was ......., and he wouldn't let me look at his identification ... .... ...Is it true that a clerk will not hand cancel (postmark) a letter unless one buys a Certificate of Mailing. I did not want nor need a Certificate of Mailing.
Thank you.
