We've had about 7500 people join the club, but sadly, some of the best have passed on - only the good die young, even when "young" is in the 70's and 80's. I'd imagine that not even half that number are actively involved club members. Among those, we can't assume everyone is willing to fork over the extra sawbuck - I would, but I can't speak for everyone else. Communicating this proposal to everyone would be difficult as well, since probably a very small fraction of the club membership uses this board (or any kind of email) to keep in touch. It's a noble idea but it will probably be quickly discouraging.
