I waded through the entire thread, and read the link to the column in the paper. I have a college degree. I can hold up my end of an intelligent conversation on a variety of topics.
The U.S. Tax Code isin't one of them.
How can the government expect the average citizen to get it right when those whose job it is to KNOW the answer can't give you a definitive one?
I have a cousin who is a CPA specializing in corporate tax issues. Everytime I ask him for advice, I feel like my head is going to explode. It is all "it depends" and "well, maybe" followed by a healthy dose of "IRS auditors disagree on this issue".
I usually support our government to a fault but this is one case where something needs to be done.
Of course, that means it never will be done.
Fuggedaboutit......I am going to Staples to buy Turbo Tax.
