Actually, the collector with whom I was brokering the deal last summer for the other denominations stated that s/he thought that there were 2000 total chips made: 200 of each denomination ($10, $50, $100, and $500), and 200 of each of the 6 roulette colours. I have heard this number bantered about before, but never from a documented, verifiable source. So I wouldn't call it reliable.
I guess the real answer is that it's a SWAG (that's a Scientific, Wild-A$$ed Guess to the non-military types ) as to how many are out there. David is right: another 700 or 7000 or 700,000 could appear tomorrow. Which is also why these are only worth the price at which willing parties are willing to buy/sell.
