This is a topic many members feel very strongly about, and you will probably hear all about it.
There has been a number of efforts by group (or groups) to begin a business where you send them your chip, they 'evaluate' it, place it in an air tite, or equivelant holder, and charge you a fee.
There are a number of members (which may seem like an understatement) who are opposed to this practice. Reasons are many:
Most chips have a value below what the slabber charges, there is no evidence the evaluator has any expert knowledge (most of the real experts are here on this BB), there is no oversight, it forces a person to value a $3 chip as maybe $10 not because of the chip, but the slabbing.
You'll here more reasons I'm sure.
The Slab Free was a movement that actually occurred before I became a club member. But in effect it is members who have sworn to never deal with slabbers, orthose who deal with slabbers.
My opinion is slabbing is dumb. Waste of money, and I would never do it, nor would I knowingly support it being done. If you have a chip, and you want an opinion, ask, you'll get many. And if you wonder who the experts are, read tyhe posts here, and you will learn quickly who they are.
Good luck
