I'm not sure what article you're referring to, but I'm guessing it's one David Spragg wrote. He doesn't mention any problem with $1 chips and your chip looks genuine to my knowledge, except for the fact that it appears pink in the scan when the Chip Rack says it should be cream colored. I'm guessing this is a fault of the scan, not the true color of the chip.
