I have been using AVG for several years now on my family's three desktop computers and two laptops with absolutely no problems and the best thing is it's absolutely free. Their website is linked below.

BTW, make sure you are protected against Spyware too as it is every bit as bad as some of the viruses that are floating around in the wild.
