... Mudbone. Who is "the club"? It is the entire membership. It's not the elected officers or the Convention Chairman.
"The club" gets rated by the convention rooms that are occupied by our members and the money spent with catering, including the banquet. The club doesn't "get a few bucks" ... as you have mistakenly put it. When the club needs to seek out another convention site, our prior track record is based on what kind of business was given to previous year's convention hotel ... whether it was held at the Aladdin, The Trop, Orleans, Riviera or wherever future conventions are held. There are just so many hotels in town that can accomodate our needs ... or who are willing to book our relatively small convention (by Las Vegas standards). When the time comes that "the club" will have to leave the Riviera for one reason or another ... our past convention track record will play a big part on where to go and who will have us for future conventions.
Having said that, it is understood that some players are comped at other properties and nobody would expect them to give up what they have earned.
On the other hand; for those who are attending the convention for the first time and think that they are saving $10 or more per night by staying somewhere else, are not really saving that much when convenience and transportation to and from the host hotel is added into the mix.
Yes, "the club" benefits greatly by club members staying at the Riviera.... but to characterize it as the "club making a few bucks" is patently incorrect.
