Summer is the convention, people think they may be able to get a better deal at the convention, or just spent a wad at the convention,so they need to regroup. Winter is Christmas, everything slows down for the holidays (see stock market). More sellers (need the extra cash) and fewer buyers.

That is my unscientific opinion.
