Von gets to post his work pictures, so I am posting a couple from my job.
These are definately not as exciting as Von's but they might be interesting.
We are currently working on the Canadian Natural Horizon Oil Sands Project north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. We have completed the coker structure and are beginning the process of placing the four large coker drums vertically into the structure.
In the photos you will see a large Mammut crane. The crane is rigged to lift 2000 tons. The top of the concrete coker structure is at 150 feet above the ground. When we poured the top, we poured it in one shot at 1200 cubic meters of concrete.
The coker drum you see in the photos in the next post and HUGE. There are four of them to place and each weighs 1.8 million pounds.
Fort McMurray was profiled on 60 Minutes on Janury 22, 2005. There is more oil reserves in the oil sands than there is in Saudi Arabia.
Now... Back to chipping.
