I know Jim L. is still smarting after the Silver Slipper incident...but I feel all of us agree that NONE of us were born with a perfect knowledge of chip collecting...hence my story:
Darrell and I finally bought a home computer last year and I immediately focused on expanding my chip collection from solely Colorado casino chips to include Las Vegas LE's. One evening I was bidding like a crazy woman on a Dunes chip (you know where this is headed) from a weasel that advertised it as a real Dunes chip. Suddenly at around $40, an email popped up from a CC>CC member who flat out told me to quit bidding - the chip was a Borland! He gave me website info for the club and the fakes/fantasies club page.I checked out his info, and prayed for someone to out bid me...no dice. I now am the proud owner of a $40 Borland!
It all worked out in the end (even though the little Ebay jerk tried to charge me TWICE for the chip), as I found this club, found out what reference/price guides I needed, and now know that I can post a question on the board or email almost ANY club member if I don't know what I'm looking at...I actually feel it was worth a $40 screw-up to find this GREAT group of people.
Jim - Don't let this leave a bad taste in your mouth, this has happened to many of us.
Come find me at the convention (ie: Splashbar wooohooo) and I will buy you a VERY expensive drink and if you're nice, I'll even let you hold my very expensive Borland!
