One of my bridge playing partners sent me chips from Deadwood's illegal days after I began collecting chips in the '70's. One of the chips sent was an ivory (floral design} which he got from the husband of the then owner of the Bodega Bar & Grill (which had a house of a certain repute located above the bar for gentlemen's pleasure after desert, coffee and cigars. But I digress)...who said it was from Deadwood before the turn of the century. I tried to confirm the story direct with Toby, the owner of the chip but was unable to do so. Since we know that ivory chips were in use in many illegal houses across the country I would assume that they were in use in Deadwood as well.
