The Club Royale was a floating casino operating out
of the Port of Palm Beach for only a thrity-day
period before it went down in Hurricane Erin, August
2, 1995. The captain and crew were trying to outrun
the storn by heading north, but the storm moved
faster. While seven crew members were rescued, the
captain, the cook and another crew member were lost
at sea.
Unlike the uncertainty of some casino chips being
considered rare, it is documented that both Summit
Casino Products, Inc., who were the manufacturers of
the chips and tokens, and Club Royale, Inc., the
casino operator, stated that they do not have any
inventory. The manufacturer tells us that only one
example of each denomination were kept for their
records, and Club Royale told us that everything was
on board in both of the vaults -- along with pure
silver and gold tokens that were just delivered.
Club Royale, Inc. had ordered another boat and
another inventory of chips and tokens, but this time
the chips were made by CHIPCO, INT'L. The Club
Royale had since gone out of business selling their
complete inventory of second issue material which
should not be confused with the rare first issue
material.
Everything mentioned above is fully-documented in
Florida's Newspapers, Georgia's Newspapers,
Coin World, Numismatic News, Florida Token Society,
Florida Chips Checks & Tokens and CC>CC Magazine.
