I think you missed the phrase "as long as it does not infringe on others rights to do the same." This covers things that are universally recognized as being wrong, like stealing, fighting, or worse. Of course we need laws to govern us, but I don't think that this is what we were talking about. We were talking about social behavior, not criminal behavior.

The original post was about God and Christmas. Even though I am not Christian, I believe that Christians have the right to celebrate their religion and their holidays as they see fit, as long as it does not interfere ... The problem is that there are some who believe that everyone should be Christian and do as they do. That is why we have these issues. And please do not think that I am picking on Christians, I only used this as an example because that was the original topic of this post. I believe that an element of intolerance is present in almost every social group, mine included.
