It is a wonderful sentiment. Unfortunately there is most certainly, most often a RIGHT and a WRONG.
You are absolutely free to believe whatever it is you want to believe. That is a guaranteed by your citizenship in this country. "Religion" and "beliefs" have played a major role in the evolution of our understanding of what is moral, and what is law.
I can respect a person's beliefs. They are entitled to them. I don't, however, allow that
person the right to act on what they "belive" if it is contrary to what we as a society hold as "moral" or as "law", and that is where I think you are missing the boat. Live and let live is fine until you try to put together a society. Sooner or later, there has to be rules, and there has to be a right and wrong, and I submit, 99% of us KNOW it when we SEE it. If you need to create an elaborate argument AGAINST it, more often than not, it is horse-hockey. We are getting to the point where we are putting the rights of the narrow minority before the rights of the overwhelming majority.
Again, sorry for the rant........this topic just triggers one of my sore spots.
