From 1977 to mid 1980's, when he ran 'unofficial' world series cricket matches, he enlisted a number of players who were friends of mine. I went to the inaugural floodlit cricket game at Stamford Bridge (Chelsea football ground, London). Very few people turned up. I think it was the only game played in the UK.
