"Looks like it to me...Maybe the guys that collect the junk still seem to be happy."
I've never paid more than $250 for a single chip and I absolutely love this hobby. You may consider my collection junk, but I don't. And I am very happy collecting it. I also will never allow anyone else to dictate to me what the hobby is about. I am going to have fun with collecting and learning the histories of casinos and clubs. And I don't need to spend $12,000 on a single chip to do that. But that doesn't mean that I judge those that do spend a lot of money on chips. I really don't care that they do and it doesn't affect me or my collecting in any way.
Tonight's Las Vegas Club Chip Collector's meeting was great! We had about 50 people there, with enough food for 100! We had fun and there was all kinds of trading going on afterwards. A few of us even stayed around chipping and talking until we just couldn't go on any longer. There was very little talk about today's BBS debates. We were having fun doing what we were doing.
I just spent the last two days with a couple of great friends doing some serious chipping. We hit dozens of casinos and collected TITO's, slot cards, matchbooks, napkins, playing cards, and, oh yea, chips. We ate and drank plenty, too! We probably spent more in gas than we did on chips and we had a blast doing it. Not once were we concerned with the politics of the hobby. As a matter of fact, I think the only drama was when we were leaving a fifty year old bar on Boulder Hwy (that used to be a cathouse) and the parking lot was full of police because a stolen car had been dropped off there! You just can't buy that kind of fun!!!
Collecting chips and being in this hobby is what you make of it. Get caught up in the BS and it's a BS hobby. Have fun and it's a fun hobby.
Mark, this is like the fourth time you've quit the hobby in the last few months. Honestly, I really don't care whether you leave or not - it won't affect my collecting one way or the other. But I think you should really think about why you are quitting. You're never going to find another hobby with a better group of people. Were you directly involved with the recent ebay drama? (I honestly don't know because I didn't read the threads.) If not, then why let the actions of others dictate your ability to have fun with a hobby? It's something I just don't understand.
