My personal opinion is; Neither.
Nobody forced the bidder to bid more than what he was willing to pay.
We can cite all the hypothetical "IF's" we want to slant the picture a particular way. What if there were three more legitimate bidders who wanted the item even more than the winning bidder? Wouldn't the price go even higher?? "What if" one of the bidders was out of town and the other was in the hospital and couldn't get his/her bid in on time?
"What if's" are nice to debate and to hypothecize, but the facts prove otherwise. Somebody wanted those chips at the price they bid ... and they got what they were after. IT'S AN AUCTION!! Don't bid more than what you are willing to pay. Forget about the "shills" behind every tree. Sometimes you may even wind up getting a bargain.
