I am trying to sort this whole collection out. My Aunt did a real good job and had them all numbered (plus she had a handwritten database list I remember seeing somewhere) but since she passed, they've gotten moved around a bit and apparently separated from the listing pages.
I think I also remember seeing some correspondence between my grandfather and an Elta Gray from Los Gatos, California. This would have been after my Aunt's death in 1993. Anyway, Elta was a collector and a seller/trader like you guys here on this board. (Heck maybe someone remembers her or my Aunt - Judith Denton from Reno)... anyhow Elta helped my grandfather value the collection in the early 1990's at about "$15,000 minus the silver ones" - (That's what I read in the letter anyway). I think in addition there is 20-30 'silver strikes.'?
Elta Gray took all the gaming tokens from my grandfather and catalogued them, typed up the database listing for him, etc., right after my Aunt Judith's death. I don't believe he ever insured them. Then he died in 1996 leaving this collection to my mother who never did anything with them that I know of (except I found a receipt that she sold the chips of this collection for $2,000 to someone). And my mother passed in 2003.
Now that the Probate of Mom's Estate is done and I own it, I think I need to be proactive here and insure this collection.
Estimated value of what's here?
I have no clue -
if it was "about $15,000 + 20-30 silver strikers" in 1994 (not counting any of the US & foreign coin & paper money), I don't know how the value increases or decreases as I am not a collector. Just trying to get educated here and like I said - put some insurance on it. It took me about a week to be able to say nu-mis-matic without massacre LOL
Let me dig around in some boxes and see where that listing is and I'll try and post some of what's on it.
Thanks again!!!
