I'm glad somebody took the time to respond in this fashion to the topic from yesterday. I've only been collecting for a few years now- but thanks to folks and resources such as this board, I'm able to keep from being suckered into chip purchases that may not be what I think they are.
I now find it laughable and sad when I see auctions that are laid out like the one for the "Key West" chips was. With all due respect, I know nothing about the seller of those chips- but IMHO he knows exactly what he is doing by listing them in that fashion. Hoping that somebody will jump on the chip craze and overpay for something that isn't quite what it may seem at first.
As mentioned, the easy solution would have been to label them in the auction as "fantasy"- but doing so would dramatically cut down on the number of buyers and/or selling price. Imagine if that same seller were to bring his Ford into my auto shop for repairs- and I replace a bunch of parts with what I label as "Ford", only for him to find out later he paid top dollar for parts made by ACME. I suppose I could always just say I was joking...
