There is a chip guide book that does not list correct information about the Westerner $1 Arodie chip, even though I am sure that the author knows better. A quantity of these chips were "found" about a year ago. That is when I bought mine, right before they starting showing up in numbers. Seems a seller knew about the horde and was unloading his inventory. I bought mine at over $1,000. I know others who spent up to $1,500 on the chip. I suspect that many were found, perhaps a box or more. The sellers are trying to release these slow enough to get the highest prices out of the unaware buyers. By "unaware", I mean that the exact number of chips found is only known to very few.
I have to congratulate Charles T. Rogers for his honesty in chip selling. When he found a quantity of a previously unknown Caesars $1 chip, he told everyone what he found and priced the chip appropriately. I believe they sold out quickly. Charlie could have gotten much higher prices by selling them slowly, but he did the right thing. I wish the finders/sellers of the Westerner $1 arodie chips would do the same thing.
In the mean time, I wouldn't buy another Westerner $1 arodie chip. Who knows how many there are out there? Also, be careful who you buy from, even if they wrote the book!
