I agree that Vegas does little to preserve it's physical history. However, I don't feel that it is a bad/sad thing. Vegas destroys their buildings with apparent disregard for their historical value, but I think that it is part of the charm that makes Vegas so unique. It is always on the move, everchanging and never the same as it was yesterday. The memories of those that appreciated the places live on and are often times better (embelished as time goes on) than if the physical building still existed, making the legacy of the place greater than it actually was. As long as people who enjoyed The Green Shack remember it and talk about it, it will never be gone.
I am realitively young and I was never in The Sands or The Landmark, but when I have one of those chips in my hands, I can feel the history of those places even though they are long gone. This is in part due to the ambiance of old Vegas and in part due to the stories I have heard from those that were there. You can bet, that when I pass my collection on to my kids the chips will not go alone, the stories will go along with them.
Please don't get me wrong, I think 99.99% of the time historical landmarks such as The Green Shack should be preserved... Just not in Vegas, where their history is to disregard their history.
