Are you tired of putting a lot of effort into one area of chip collecting only to find that there are one or more 'killer' chips that are so rear and expensive that even if you could find them you could never afford to purchase them.
Australia, or New Zealand, or both, seem to be exempt from this discouraging ailment.
Since casinos in both Australia and New Zealand are only slightly more than 20 years old, almost everything ever issued is still available in good condition and at reasonable prices.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no 'killer' chips, nothing that is totally unobtainable because of rarity/price.
The main obsticales to collecting Australia or New Zealand are geography and documentation. Since they are so far removed it is not possible to 'drive by' and pick up a few chips. You would mostly be relying on 'in country' contacts or ebay auctions. As for documentation, John Kallman and I are working on that (and we would be hugely grateful for anyone contributing to the knowledge base).
It could be coincidence, but I noticed a HUGE! increase in Australian chips listed on ebay right after John and I announced our list.
So, if you're looking for a chip specialty that is 'totally doable', you might consider Australia/New Zealand.
