Round 2. Putting the Diamond Chip Cleaner thru the next phase of testing.
Recapping from last time, using the product I cleaned approx 10 chips and had great success.
Four objectives from this round of testing.
1) I wanted to clean a mass amount of chips, all of which were extremely dirty.
2) Put the chip cleaner up against the norm, Dish soap.
3) Testing the product on a gold hot stamped chip for discolorization results.
4) Answering emailed questions.
Phase #1: Bringing out the dirty of the dirtiest chips. These were the last of the Hurricane Katrina muck chips that were dug out from under bull dozers. When they cleared Highway 90, which is beachside on the Biloxi Coast, they used snow plows style clearing methods to move the sand off the roadways. This is where these chips where located.
Closer view:
Placing these chips in an old tupperware style container I covered them in Diamond Chip Cleaning solution.
Following the instructions, after a few minutes I took them out and wiped them off. Because these chips where in such bad shape, they required a little help with a soft brissle tooth brush. The results were as before, nice clean chips.

Phase 2: Diamond Chip Cleaner vs Dishwashing Soap
From Terry's idea. I took two similar condition chips.
I cleaned one in the Diamond Chip Cleaning solution......
and the other with Dish Soap.....
The results were not to surprising. Left is the DCC and the right is the dish soap.
Both of the products did the job. But the DCC made the job sooooo much easier. Less work in the scrubbing department. And if you have used dish washing soap, you will know what I mean here......the DCC does not leave the dried out stiff chip feel that dishwashing soap does.
Phase 3: Cleaning a Hot Stamped chip
Though I did not have a dirty hot stamped chip, I used one that had perfect gold stamp so I could see if the chip cleaner would do any damage.
After leaving the chip for approx 1 hour submerged in the solution, there was no damage noted.
Phase 4: Q & A
Smell: There is no noticable smell from Diamond Chip Cleaner product.
How does it work?: From what I can tell is that the product breaks down the dirt off the surface of the chip turning the solid into a manageable lesser solid almost to a liquid. Here is a picture of an un-wiped chip still wet from the solution. If you look close you can see the black muck has been attacked by teh cleaner and is now a grey liquid form mass that can be wiped away.
After cleaning what is left behind is a chip that has a feel of a brand new smooth, easy to shuffle again, chip. When you ruffle them in a group, they sound so good again....as if they have been restored.
OK, I have rambled long enough. I have enjoyed working with Diamond Chip Cleaning solution. I like its results MUCH better then dish soap. IMO it again has lived up to its billing. To me, it has been well worth the cost.
