I saw that Dale Seymour's book lists a number of "Recent Creations & Suspected Fakes" but doesn't explain the difference. This chip is not listed but probably would be. Are most of the fakes recently carved real ivory or are they like the fake scrimshaw stuff that is actually just plastic replicas?
