The Bad!
Pictured below are front and back scans of an envelope I received from Rich Jahn. Enclosed was one of his personal chips. You can see the chip's outline at the lower left corner (front view) and lower right corner (rear view) as left by the postal equipment.
Below is a scan of the same envelope which has been cut open along both side and bottom edges. You can see that the chip is wrapped in a note pad paper from the Trump Marina.
The Lucky!
A detail scan shows that the chip had started off inside a fold-over plastic flip, but due to postal processing it broke through the side of the plastic flip.
But due to the fact that Rich taped the flip to the Trump Marina paper and then taped the Trump Marina paper to the inside of the envelope, we were very lucky that when the chip moved sideways through the edge of the flip, it was retained in-place by a very thin sliver of tape!
Now as a collector of chips and slot cards, I have a dislike for tape; big time! Chip and cards (and dice) just don't handle tape well at all. However, in this instance I will relax that hatred!
Rich, thanks for the trade!!! The chip arrived safely. Even though Mr. Susong uses that fancy foam-paper stuff, he could use a lesson here!
