As a general practice, I don't think Slabbing has a place in our hobby. Any collector has reasonable access to information and materials (holders etc.) to avoid the mark up.
But even if we accept the contention that on certain types of chips, or areas (ie Illegals), a specialized expertise is beneficial, And with chips going for thousands, it is not a minor issue, we still have deal with the question of who is tendering this expertise.
The slabber of note is the company in Tenn. Apparently he is generally unknown to the hobby, and his expertise is in doubt. One of the great things about this hobby, is that the very people with the expertise, are willing to share it.
By this I mean people like Archie Black (AC chips), Ed Hertel (illegals) Gene Trimball (damn near anything), Big Dave from England (who researched the counterfeit chips). There are obviously many more, but these serve as example.
If you find yourself nbeeding real expertise, go to people with real expertise. Don't rely upon an unknown, unproven, unexpert.
