MS Works is still sold. In fact, you can buy OEM versions on EBay quite cheaply.

If you have a recent version of MS Word, you can load "converters" when you install Word. One of them converts Works 4.0 files so you can open them. If you didn't install the converter, go back to setup of MS Word and make sure it is included. You will need the original install disks.
