I just read Gene's post below about the Palms going tokenless. Man, does this tokenless push of casinos make anyone else mad? I don't collect tokens, so it has nothing to do with that. As a gambler, I'm a traditionalist. When I do play the slot machines, I like using tokens. I like hearing them drop and I like the feel of the weight on cups after cashing out. (I also like traditional slot machines, not those video games they have out now - but that is another rant.)
Some casinos are even going one further, like the Winstar in Oklahoma, and doing away with the TITO tickets. They use your players card as a debit card to keep track of your winnings. I hate that!
Question, how long before they do away with chips? How long before you walk up to a table and slip a card in a slot and bet by typing your amount on a keypad? Then of course they will replace the cards and dice with electronic outputs.
I guess the next step after digitizing the games is replacing casinos altogether with internet casinos. Why fly to Vegas when the Virtual Palms can be had on your laptop, or perhaps lasered straight into your head. Its coming, hopefully not in my lifetime, but it will come none-the-less.
I'm afraid the retiring the tokens is just the beginning.
P.s. - I wonder what the Virtual Gene Trimble will be like?
