Some tokens are made for the specific purpose of representing a monetary value (as a stand-in for money, or an iou). Do you know of any guns that were made for that same specific purpose?

Weak analogy. I find the exchange for money at a pawn shop line to be especially strained. They are not exchanged for their full market value, are they? Pawn shops essentially buy goods at reduced prices with an option to re-buy given to the seller for a specific time period. It is not an exchange in the way that casino tokens are exchanged for money at casinos, which are redeemable for 100% of their face value.
