I agree with Jim that personal chips should not be included in the OTYs. MY reason is a little different.
Personal chips are a bit of whimsy, intended to either show off a part of a member's character, a viewpoint, or promote a personal aspect of the hobby. Casino chips either serve as markers, or are intended (unofficially) as purchasable souvenirs.
I think there should be a competition for personal chips that shares that whimsy, and perhaps provides an opportunity to raise $ for a worthy cause (ie Hurricane Relief).
I accept Jim's guidance as to how to approach the board when a full idea is developed, but I am suggesting a thought for consideration...
When I was in College (GO PURDUE, Beat ND), we had a fundraiser called Ugly Man on Campus. There would be 30-40 guys, mostly from dorms and fraternities, who would do whatever it took to be ugly (who knew it took effort?).
There would be voting locations, and the picture/name of each candidate was attached toa jar. People voted by putting change in the jars (lots of pennies). The jar with the most $ won. The trophy was cool (as I remember). All the $ collected went to the designated charity.
There would be hundreds raised, and it was great fun.
I think we could allow any person to enter their personal chip. Doesn't have to be new, but could only be entered once. The candidate would be required to provide the chip and maybe a picture (whatever). We set up a table with jars and allow members to vote with change. We give the winner a worthy prize, the $ raiused to charity, and the chips become the property of the club.
I think it would be nice to have a permanent collection of personal chips of members when we finally get a buildiong. I also think it would be great to allow the candidates to try and rally votes. The prize would need to be worthwhile, but keep the whimsical mood.
Obviously this is only a general suggestions, andmany details would need to be worked out, but I would appreciate any input, to see if it is worth consideration.
Thank you.
