It also makes it impossible to see what you are getting. On e-bay, the picture is the only means of seeing the condition of the chip (or other item). Otherwise, you are relying on the description of the seller, who has an incentive to make the item as attractive as possible. I believe most sellers are quite honest about the condition of their items, but not all.
