Not just a storm... It's the worst natural disaster in our American History. It's unbelievable that some folks are blaming Bush and/or Iraq war for actual levee failure.
As far as the rescue efforts...
In today's TV society, people also expect things to be fixed in an hour or two or a day or two. I'm sure us Monday morning quarterbacks have no idea what the scope of the problem was by just watching it in our dry homes with the TV on.
The General in charge was saying over the weekend that this was not a one day event but an event that happened over several days. Also because of the Hurricane, relief assets were moved AWAY from the target area on purpose so as not to be damaged by the storm then later mobilized back into the region/area...
I agree that it appears that initial relief efforts were not organized very well. I'm sure those answers will come out in due time. I have my opinions on it. Seems to me the the State and Local levels had no control and were delayed in requesting Federal help. I even saw today where Governor is not allowing National Guard troops to be under any control by Feds. Also Governor is causing red tape problems with FEMA getting assistance... Eventually answers will come out where it could have been done better.
