Ole and Clarence live across the river from each other in the Wisconsin back woods. There is no bridge between the two and for years they have been yelling insults back and forth over some long past disagreement. Ole would say, "If I had a vay to get across dis here river, I'd come and beat you up real bad". Clarence would respond with, "Uf dah, I'd tie you up in a knot, you bum". One day, a bridge was built and Lena told Ole now was his chance to get that damn Clarence real good. Ole heads out across the bridge, spots a sign and returns home at a dead run. Lena is real curious about this fast retreat and Ole explains, "Vell Lena dis sign says dat dis Clarence fella is 13 ft 6 in. He don't look dat big ven I'm yellin' at him across the river".
