Regular banking is free - I pay nothing for cheques, domestic transfers or anything else. But to bank a foreign currency payment is expensive, be it cheque, IMO or anything else. Probably the same for you guys to bank a GB Sterling cheque into your US$ accounts I guess.

Paypal is one of the few ways to transfer currencies easily, but not if they want to charge for all transactions - guess I'll end up sticking with cash!
