I use 2 paypal accounts, one for credit cards and one for cash payments which means at least I only pay fees when taking credit card payments.

For the auctions, list that you only take cash, check or whatever else and then state that anyone wishing to pay by paypal to contact you - you can then give them the appropriate paypal details.

It may take a little longer to get payments because of the emails, but it should work and save some paypal fees.
