I suppose I can put in my two cents.
I participated in the OTY judging this year. I am not sure how they narrowed all the 2004 releases down to just ten, but I thought they made a pretty good selection. The Hart and Huntington chip was not in my top three, but was the best of the Palms chips up for nomination.
Try to keep in mind the people who are voting. I am a chip collector, but I still picked out three nominations for the TOTY, SSOTY, and slot card/room key OTY. I based my choices on which ones were most visually appealing in my opinion. Not on where they were from, or how many other entries from the same casino there were, and I am sure there were "strikers" who voted for COTY the exact same way.
Like I said, I don't know how they narrowed it down to just ten casino chips from all the 2004 releases, but I am sure there was a reason why four of them were from the Palms. I am sure they listened to the club members, and these were the ones most nominated, and if four of the ten nominated happen to come from the same casino, then so be it. Maybe the rest of the releases were just not as popular enough to make the cut.
If it was just Hard Rock collectors voting for a Hard Rock chip, then why aren't there more Hard Rock COTY's?
