Your example is from a $30 buy in, every idiot calls just because. Same hand at a cash game, no limit, $500-$1000 on the table, you may, or may not call the AK pre flop, post flop the 2 nines will call a significant bet, hell maybe so will the AK. You don't say what cam on the turn, but apparently it didn't effect the outcome. You go all in big then AK runs, and the dead 99 bites or doesn't, either way you get paid.
If in a cash game (hell even a tournament), you call two all ins with your whole pile with an A9 pre flop, you deserved to lose. The luck was with you, then evened out, the smart player pre flop, AK, won the hand he should of won (by odds).
Give me that distribution of cards any time pre flop, and I'll bet against you every time. About the only flop that helps you, you got, and like I've said before, if you rely upon luck, skill will beat you.
