I agree, the point is that if you are in Texas, you can't have slots, craps, or "gambling" for money, but poker is considered a game of skill. (which could have changed since the judge who played poker, gave that ruling)
Playing until you lose is a strange. How about play until you win, and then take a walk? I play craps, or 21 that way, and of course no promise that I'll ever get ahead, but if I am, the original stake, plus some, goes into my pocket, then I can play and know I'll walk away a winner, even if it's small. Win some more... pocket some more.
One of the other classic dumb moves is people who play any game and let the bet ride with the win. "double up" All they are doing is making sure that they will eventually lose!
I think the term for the weekend players is "FISH"! And that's what I'd be if I sat in a game now at any casino. Shark Bait. Ten years ago I wouldn't hesitate to play, but with all the new players and many are really good students, I'd have to really get tough and concentrate.
Like everyone else here, I don't expect to win, I expect to have fun. I have a set limit, per day, divided by the number of days I'll be at the casinos. When I lose that, each day, I go write postcards and play Keno for $1 a game. (called losing, but losing slower) Go shopping, go chip hunting, go coupon exploring, go sit by the pool, go to the sports book and bet on a game, which can kill hours.
I confess that I sometimes play roulette. I have no dilusions and know that it's either going to be a complete bust except the chips I might take home.
I honestly have been on a trip with a guy who sold his plane ticket back to get more money and when we flew home, he came home on the Greyhound.
I've been to Las Vegas with people who borred money from me on day three and were getting more money wired from home on day four. I drove them to the Western Union office, kitty corner from the Stratosphere.
I think it was 1986 that I went to Reno, lost half my money the first day, in about two hours. It was a strong lesson.
All this, and the biggest expense I have on most trips after travel, is still all those chips I bring home!
