How long did it take before it finally hit that "something" is wrong? And you finally pocketed it?

I was looking through a dealers "recent purchase of a collection" a few years a go, when I came across a Treasure Island $1 (Blue with two white edge iserts) with one white edge insert - I couldn't put it down, as I was quickly looking at each piece, until I finally realized what was different by that time that it hit me - the piece went from $3 to "I'll shop it around first"...
