Not always true Rick. The law was changed a couple of years ago to allow them to sell chips from the cage. Tropicana and Taj (for example) require/request that you buy your chips for poker from their cage (in the poker room).

Some of the casinos allow you to buy LE's from the cage - specifically Trump Plaza, who are VERY accomodating to chippers (thanks Joe). Others don't.
