Kay and I came home from 2 week vacation to find a sicking mess and theft of chips in at our home. At a strong recommendation of friends we hired a 17 yr. old straight a very responsible girl to house/dog sit. Rules were to walk dog twice a day, water garden and flowers (both very large amd special) no boy's over and one best girl friend OK to come over. Well, plant and garden, neighbor said dog never walked, house dirty mess, hot tub water level down 16 inches temp. set at 96 pump running 24/7, now leaks 6 inches of water daily with cover on and temp 70., two slot machines and viedo poker machine broken, worst of all $2,600.00 in chips missing.I put high end in safe but 40-50 old SD. chips gone, 60 chip frammed favorite chip display gone, 700 poker set gone, and 100+ osb Nev. gone. Neighbor said 4 girls and boys over all the time. I called parents and had a meeting with girl and parents, she denied everything obviously lying many times, I asked for and got names address and phone of kids that were in house 17-19 yr. olds and parents name and address. The dad was to investigate and advised all parties denied everything. I made a police report today with before and after pictures, and agreed to press charges. I do not have special chip ins. (stupid) I made homeowners ins claim no idea what they will cover, But after this experience haven't slep much being so upset. I trusted friends and got burnt. My bad judgement. Lessoned learned the hard way. 1. Insure your collection. 2. Never have any teenagers house sit. 3. Always put all chips in the safe. Interesting they could have taken many other very valuble items Jewerly, silver, china crystal, computers ect. that would be easy to pawn for cash. I think a college boy who plays poker stole items to show off to his buddies, all poker related items. I feel stupid making this post but, wanted to vent It's not the dollar amount, but broken trust by fellow humans. Sorry so long.
