The $200 machines are known as skill-stop slot machines. I own a couple of them. Skill stop means you press a button to stop each reel, they dont stop automatically like a regular American style slotmachine. The skill-stop slot machines are technically known as "pachislo" machines and used in Japanese pachislo parlors. They were never really in any "international casinos" as sometimes advertised, they were originally set up for token-in token-out use only and are not a gambling device by definition since no money is directly involved. Although they are called "skill stop" there is actually a clever computer/motor combo inside that regulates the final stopping position of the reels no matter how you press the stop buttons. The machines can be set on a variety of payouts from around 95% up to 105% (varies by machine). They can be converted to accept quarters but beware, there is no coin comparator in the machines, only a basic token checker so if you are worried about slugs stay away from the conversion. Most retailers will install a pull-arm for around $70 extra. All retailers refuse to convert the machines to quarter at the time of purchase since this would break several state laws. Each machine has its own different features - some of the recent machines have some really neat translucent lcd displays and full screen displays. It is important to purchase a machine with as little Japanese writing on it as possible because if you ever need to reset something within the machine it would be very very hard without a manual. It is possible to purchase a very nice machine nowadays from a reputable dealer with LIFETIME warranty, including all light bulbs, motors, etc. and 500 tokens delivered anywhere in the country for around $200. A reputable dealer will always have a return policy and be willing to replace damaged/worn out parts. I would recommend Stealth Home Amusement as I have had nothing but good experiences with them on the machines I purchased. I included one of my favorite machines (eBay link, sold by Stealth). 5stardeal sometimes has some good auctions too but of the two machines I purchased from them both had some problems with circuit boards being plugged in incorrectly. One other thing, the play is a little different than American slot machines, on these skill-stop machines the point is really to hit a "jackpot" - there are very few small wins in between. Make sure you look at a lot of machines before you buy, there are plently of choices, no need to settle for something less than what youll enjoy for a long time. Lastly, I would recommend you purchase an additional 500 tokens at time of purchase if you dont want to consistently re-open the machine to pull tokens out or re-fill the hopper when you win. If you sign up at www.pachitalk.com those guys are pretty helpful to noobies with the pachislo machines and can recommend good models.
