Last year we too had identity theft. Seems like some jerk took our credit offers mail one day. They got a card offer and an envelope with blank checks used to pay off debts and transfer them to another creditor.
We found out when someone was attempting to open an account. We also had a check written for cash in the amount of $1600. To top it off, a local young lady bought over $400 in underwear from an internet company. She was foolish enough to give her work phone number in the transaction. The police were alerted (don't know what, if anything, they did) and I called her to tell her she is as good as "dead."
We also notice people going through our trash when put out on the street for pick-up.
This inconvenience was a real pain to undo, but hopefully, it is now history. So be cautious! Shred, shred, shred...and if someone is going through your mail...shoot them first, then ask them what they are up to.
