As we become more and more dependent on Chinese goods (could soon be buying our gas from them), and as more and more of them become wealthy, it is only natural that they develop Macau as a center for gambling.
There was a front page article in the Los Angeles Times today about how the newly rich are having trouble handling the incredible stress they are under in a country that is newly embracing capitalism under a communist dictatorship. Gambling is in their blood and Macau will serve as an accessible diversion.
It is going to be interesting to see where this selling of America is going and how it will end up for the United States in the future.
It doesn't make a lot of sense to me for us to become dependent on such a powerful country with such a poor human rights record and latent desire to conquer. But then what do I know!?!
